Rutgers University K-12 Chinese Teacher Training Initiative
The Rutgers University K-12 Chinese Teacher Training Initiative is funded by a generous grant by the Freeman Foundation. It brings together Rutgers resources in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, the Graduate School of Education, and the World Languages Institute. As the need for Chinese learning increases in the state of New Jersey, the initiative aims to address the need for Chinese teachers through the following five initiatives:
Expand opportunities in The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, the Language Education Program at the Graduate School of Education, and the World Languages Institute to better serve pre-service and in-service Chinese teachers
Increase the number of certified Chinese teachers in the field
Link schools with prospective teachers
Promote Chinese programs in K-12 settings
Enhance the Rutgers Multimedia Chinese Teaching System to serve the K-12 population
