Study Abroad Program in Florence, Italy - Summer 2009

The World Languages Institute and the Department of Italian are pleased to present an exciting educational and cultural experience through two weeks of summer study in Florence, Italy. Prof. Alessandro Vettori
The course will be taught by Professor Alessandro Vettori, who also will direct the program, which is integrated with guided tours to museums, art galleries and churches, two half-day excursions to towns such as Siena and Pisa, a weekend excursion to Venice, and other activities. There is also an optional weekend stay at the end of the program.

Program Dates:
Monday, August 3 - Friday, August 14. Suggested arrival date is Saturday, August 1 and departure date is Saturday, August 15.

Costs: Totals include tuition, student fee, program fee and accommodations (see breakdown below). Items not included are airfare, most meals, medical/dental and other incidental expenses.Florence

Includes participant’s course packet; four guided tours by a professional art historian to Florentine museums, art galleries and churches and all associated entrance fees; three group meals; half-day excursion fees covering transportation, tour guide and entrance tickets to museums; Venice excursion fee covering transportation, tour guide, entrance tickets to museums, and accomodations.

Accommodations: $740.00 (double occupancy)
Fourteen nights at the lovely Palazzo Mannaioni Residence, located in Florence’s historic center in a building dating back to the 1400's but with all the amenities of a modern hotel (visit http://www.florenceresidence.it). The Palazzo features comfortable studio apartments with private bathroom, kitchenette, television, telephone with a private line, air conditioning, and maid service twice a week; some rooms have a balcony, a wonderful view of the Santo Spirito Basilica, and are Internet accessible. There will be the possibility to bring spouses and families. Reservations will be made in advance by the Program Director.

Participants must have a valid passport; no visa is required for US citizens staying in Italy for 90 days or less.

Proposed Schedule of Activities (subject to change without notice):
Classes take place on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon daily at Eurocentres Firenze, which is very centrally located and within walking distance from the FlorencePalazzo Mannaioni Residence and major sites such as the Ponte Vecchio. Eurocentres provides Internet access, but if you choose to bring your laptop, there is also the possibility for hookup. During each week of the two-week program, there will be one half-day guided excursion, and two afternoon guided tours to the following sites: the Uffizi art museum, the Museo dell’Accademia, the Medici Chapels and the adjacent Church of San Lorenzo, and the Church of Santa Croce.
