Practical introduction to different technology tools that improve productivity in the translation process, such as translation memory software, development of term databases, corpus compilation and analysis for translation purposes, basics of web localization. Hands-on practice in the computer lab. Students might work in the second language of their choice. Conducted in English.

Prerequisite: Prior study or experience in translating and/or interpreting, or permission of instructor. Open to all languages.
Discussion of variant modes of interpreting (consecutive, simultaneous, liaison) and specific fields (medical, legal). Practice in shadowing, note taking, intralingual interpretation (English only), and public speaking. Beginning practice of consecutive interpreting from target language to English.

Code of ethics. Review of court procedures and basic English legal terminology. Student development of terminology in their respective target languages. Presentation of mock trials.
